I believe that many people who would love to sing for an audience are often prevented from doing so because they hear voices in their heads saying, “Oh but I’m not a soloist!” or “I couldn’t possibly do that!” or “I’d be far too nervous” or “I’m only a choral singer.” But if you have songs that you love to sing, songs that inspire you, the Forum evenings offer a relaxing and safe environment for you to try singing in front of a few others who are in the same situation as you, and in the process receive some helpful feedback.
Forum evenings take place approximately once a month in Nottingham on a Friday from 18.30 until around 20.45. At these events each singer performs two songs accompanied by me, Philip Robinson. After each song the other singers then give feedback, which is sometimes focused around a particular aspect of singing. The evenings are informal and enjoyable with a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. The whole range of the vocal repertoire can be heard at any one workshop, from German Lieder to Jazz Standards.
Participants come from different musical backgrounds. Some have done some solo work previously, whilst others are mainly choral singers who are new to solo singing. Some may be wanting to rehearse for a particular performance or audition, but the majority come because they simply love the music and want to sing it. People with any level of experience are welcome to participate in any of the evenings.
To participate in an evening, choose a date from the listings below and click “Book”, then you can either pay online, or choose to pay later and post a cheque. At least two weeks prior to the evening, email me with the titles of the the two songs that you would like to sing and I will let you know whether I need you to send the sheet music to me (in the case I don’t already have it). If I do need you to send the music, emailing a pdf is ideal, but if that isn’t possible you can post sheet music. The fee for an evening is £20.00. Fees are non refundable, unless an event is cancelled.
